Microneedling for Men: Acne Scars, Pores and Skin Texture

Acne scarring, enlarged pores and uneven skin texture are among the most common skin concerns men bring to us — and among the most undertreated. Many men assume there is little that can be done, or that the options available are too invasive or too expensive to be practical.

Microneedling is neither. It is one of the most effective treatments available for these concerns, and it works with the body's own repair mechanisms rather than against them.

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling — also called collagen induction therapy — uses a medical-grade device fitted with fine needles to create thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin. These micro-injuries trigger the body's natural wound-healing response: collagen and elastin production increases, new skin cells are generated, and the treated area gradually remodels.

The result, over a course of treatments, is firmer, smoother, more even skin — with visible improvement in texture, scarring, pore size and fine lines.

What Can Microneedling Treat?

Acne scarring. This is where microneedling delivers some of its most significant results. The collagen remodelling process gradually fills and smooths the depressed scars left by acne. Results are cumulative — each session builds on the last.

Enlarged pores. Pore size is largely determined by genetics and skin type, but microneedling can visibly reduce the appearance of enlarged pores by improving the surrounding skin structure.

Uneven skin texture. Rough, bumpy or uneven texture — whether from acne, sun damage or general skin ageing — responds well to microneedling. The surface becomes noticeably smoother over a course of sessions.

Fine lines and early ageing. The collagen stimulation from microneedling improves skin elasticity and reduces the appearance of fine lines, particularly around the eyes and forehead.

Dull or tired-looking skin. The increased cell turnover from microneedling restores radiance and improves overall skin tone.

Areas We Treat

At Refine Clinic, we offer microneedling for:

  • Face — the most common area, addressing all of the concerns above
  • Back — for men with back acne scarring or rough texture
  • Intimate area — exclusively for male clients, addressing texture and tone with full discretion

What Happens During a Session?

Your appointment begins with a skin assessment. The treatment area is cleansed and a topical numbing cream may be applied for comfort. The microneedling device is moved systematically across the skin, creating the controlled micro-channels.

You will feel a mild scratching or vibrating sensation — most men find it entirely tolerable. The treatment takes 50–60 minutes for the face.

After the session, the skin will appear red — similar to a mild sunburn. This settles within 24–48 hours for most men.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

A course of 3–6 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart is recommended for optimal results. Some men see improvement after a single session, but the full benefit of collagen remodelling builds progressively over the course.

For significant acne scarring, 6 sessions is a realistic starting point. For texture and pore concerns, 3–4 sessions often delivers noticeable results.

Aftercare

For 24 hours after treatment: avoid direct sun exposure, hot baths, saunas, swimming and vigorous exercise. Use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser and SPF.

For 48 hours: avoid retinol, exfoliating acids and active skincare.

Do not pick or scratch the skin as it heals.

Is There Any Downtime?

Minimal. Most men return to normal activity the same day. The redness settles within 24–48 hours. Some mild flaking may occur over the following few days as the skin renews — this is normal.
