Laser Hair Removal for Men's Intimate Areas: What to Expect

Intimate area laser hair removal for men is one of the most requested treatments at Refine Clinic — and one of the least talked about. Men want the information, but it can be hard to find a straightforward, clinical answer to what actually happens during the treatment, how it feels, and what results to expect.

This guide covers everything you need to know.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

We offer laser hair removal for all male intimate areas, including:

  • Pubic area — the area above and around the base of the penis
  • Brazilian — pubic area plus the inner thighs and perineum
  • Hollywood — full removal of all hair in the intimate area, front and back
  • Full intimate area — a comprehensive treatment covering all intimate zones

Each of these is a clinical treatment performed in a fully private room. We treat men exclusively, and discretion is built into every aspect of how we work.

The Laser We Use

We use a triple-wave diode laser combining three wavelengths: Alex 755nm, Diode 808nm, and YAG 1064nm. This combination allows us to treat all hair types and skin tones effectively. The laser also uses a temperature-controlled ice barrier that cools the skin during treatment, making the experience significantly more comfortable than older laser systems.

What Happens During the Treatment?

You'll be asked to shave the treatment area 24 hours before your appointment. On arrival, you'll be shown to a private treatment room. The area is cleaned, and a cooling gel may be applied.

The laser handpiece is moved systematically across the treatment area. You'll feel a series of brief pulses — most clients describe the sensation as a mild snap or warmth. The ice barrier significantly reduces discomfort. The intimate area is more sensitive than the back or chest, but the vast majority of men find it entirely manageable.

A pubic area session takes around 20 minutes. A full intimate area session takes around 40 minutes.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

Most men need 6–8 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart to achieve a 70–80% reduction. After completing a course, one to two annual top-up sessions maintain the result.

The intimate area responds consistently to laser treatment. Results are cumulative — each session builds on the last.

Does It Hurt?

The most common question. The honest answer is: less than most men expect. The temperature-controlled ice barrier makes a significant difference. Most clients describe the sensation as mild and entirely tolerable. The area immediately around the base of the penis and the perineum tend to be the most sensitive spots — but even these are brief.

Is a Patch Test Required?

Yes — a patch test is mandatory at least 24 hours before your first session. This is a brief appointment (£15, credited towards your first treatment) where we assess your skin and hair type, review your medical history, and confirm you're a suitable candidate.

Aftercare

After your session, the treated area may appear slightly red for a few hours. Avoid tight clothing, hot baths, saunas and vigorous exercise for 24 hours. Treated hairs will shed over the following 2–3 weeks — this is normal and a sign the treatment is working.

Preparing for Your Appointment

  • Shave the treatment area 24 hours before (not on the day)
  • Do not wax or use depilatory creams for at least 4 weeks before treatment
  • Avoid sun exposure to the area for 2 weeks before treatment
  • Arrive with clean skin — no creams, oils or deodorant on the treatment area
